Removal of calculus (tartar) and plaque is a process in which pigments and stone removed from the teeth. Normally it takes 15 to 20 minutes and it is painless. The removal of tartar is done by using an ultrasonic scaler and pigments are gone with an air prophy polisher. It is recommended that you do it once to twice a year.
